I made some chicken and bean and bacon soup, had some good breads, baked some good cookies and topped it all off with the best HOT Cocoa ever. Just invite a few of your friends after trick-or treating they can head over to your house to warm up and get some treats. Of course, what is Halloween without caramel apples? the easy way to make them is to use the packet from the local grcoery store. wrap up your apples, stick in oven for 5 minutes, and voila! candied apples! Don’t forget, half the fun is also dressing up, so have a trunk of costumes available for people to try on and wear for the duration of the party. Tattoos and body jewelry are real simple ways to dress up or dress down.

My seven year old for his 8th birthday, wanted an alien themed party. Unfortunately, the days of Men in Black were over and they were replaced by pirates and other licenses. We had to think quick. luckily, we had a box of old lab coats and goggles llying around, and we transfrormed the living room into Biolevel 4. scientists (my mom and her friend) lead us in making alien gak with borax and glue, then we added food coloring for color. we placed the gak in their own crystallized eggs. Afterwards, we played a game of alien egg toss. Of course there needs to be a simulation the rocket blasters, this is where pepsi and mentos come in. after this high energy game was was a slower game, the alien search party (aswering questions about the birthday boy and the solar system. The first team to find all the aliens and answer questions accurately were the first team to visit firt hand the Alien Autopsy Room and experience its’ creepy authenticity.

My daughter’s Princess party

I made heraldic flags with a crown and a shoe and my husband made a caslte facade for the front of our house. This way, when my daughter’s guests arrive, they are arriving at a “real castle!” We encouraged each guest to dress as a knight, prince, or princess. Someone even came as a Dragon King! We had jewels to add to their ensemble, and as a craft, we decorated foam tiaras and crowns. Most of the guests were three years old, so they got distracted with the toys that were available for them to play with during transitions from one activity to next. But that was okay, we had fun hanging out all day with everyone. We had craft all day, treasure hunt, and a pull (non-violent) pinata. Of course, lunch and cake was in there somewhere. I think it is possible to have a scheduled party with kids this young, but it really depends on how much help you can get the day of the party.
I had made a castle cake but in the middle of July, it got pretty hot in the house! so the poor cake melted and started sliding on its side! Thank goodness for a quick thinking husband who suggested to place a dragon facing where the cake had fallen down. It looked great! Looked as though the dragon destroyed the cake and I had planned the cake all along! My son even added little knights to add to the authenticity.
